It’s said that the easiest way to win the Lotto is to get an email address and if you’ve received one of these spoof ‘you’ve won the lottery’ emails you’ll know exactly what I mean.

PLAY NOW

The emails are all different but pretty generic, they state that you have won a lottery from around the world and you need to get in touch to claim your multi million prize. What they don’t tell you is when you get in touch with them that they will want an ‘administration’ fee to release your winnings to you.

Now its estimated that lottery scammers only need one person in every five million recipients to fall for the scam to make a profit so don’t be that one.

If you receive an email saying you have won a lottery just stop and think. Did you play in that lottery? The answer is probably no, you can’t possibly win a competition or lottery you haven’t even entered, there are ways to play lotteries from around the world but they are through reputable organisations who wouldn’t send you emails full of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

Use your common sense, although it’s tempting when you are being offered life changing amounts of money to respond and maybe even send cash off, don’t do it.

And as my mother always said to me, ‘if something seems too good to be true, it probably is’ truer words have never been spoken, take heed.
