Thirteen members of staff at an Altham engineering firm all have shares in a £4,000,000 jackpot. Incredibly, they have decided to use the money to invest in the company they work for in order to secure their futures. Each member will collect around £300,000 each. Theirs was one of two winning tickets on the night, each worth £3,938,641.
Head of the syndicate Arthur Whitaker, 79, said members of the group were "amazed" and "overjoyed" at their success. Arthur, as well as his son, Andy, 44, is owner of an automotive engine rebuilding firm, ASK Rewinds. Like all businesses in the auto industry, the recession has been a huge blow to a small family-run business such as this. Although some of the members of the syndicate plan on using the money to pursue new career paths, the majority are looking forward to buying shares of the business to insure it’s success in today’s volatile market.
Andy, the boss of ASK Rewinds, said the shock of the win had yet to sink in. It is understandable why the good fortune is taking a while to sink in. Not only did the lucky syndicate walk away with a major Lotto win, but they also celebrated a £7500 Hotpicks win the same day.
The syndicate, including Andy’s wife Jayne, celebrated the news by popping champagne corks and parading a giant cheque at their base in the Altham Industrial Park. Andy said that a big party was now being planned for the workers and their families.
The group’s lucky numbers were 6, 25, 33, 37, 42, 43 – a set of numbers that they have used since the inception of the syndicate.
